The Luckiest Ride on the Lower East Side

I’ve heard of guerilla knitting—anonymous crafters will leave knitted graffiti in public places—but I’ve never seen it until last night. I’m not sure what my grandmother would’ve thought of this bicycle, but I think it looks like one sweet ride.

Awesome. I’ve heard of it too, but never seen any.

  2. Beth says:

Thank you for referencing my favorite song by my favorite band in the post title. Yay for The Magnetic Fields! More people need to hear their awesomeness.

And what an adorable knit job, in pink and blue (itb).

How cute, a tea cosy for the bike. It will stay warm in this weather. Now I am jazzed to go look for guerilla knitting.

  4. Jess says:

That’s the same yarn that covered the bull on wall street wonder if it’s thesame lady

This is awesome! Would love to graffiti knit with cool bunch of knitters.

  7. Judy says:

    It’s crochet.

  8. Susan says:

@Judy – I was gonna say – looks like crochet to me… but would be fun to come across something like this on a walk downtown!

  9. Carmen says:

Now this is someone who truely loves their bike. The creativity, the time, need I say more.

  10. Nicole says:

I’ve seen this in my town (a cozy sweater for a tree trunk and several of the branches) but didn’t know it had a name. I’ll try to capture a pic and send it in!

  11. Marisa says:

Does it stay on while you ride it? Can’t see how it comes off. Very cute though.

  12. Tawnya says:

I have never seen anything like that. The bike might get a little hot changed up on an Arizona sidewalk.

  13. Julie says:

    Love it!

  14. Princess says:

I love this but hate the color!

  15. This shows more than just the ability to crochet. I can’t imagine the amount of time and thought that goes into this type of project. I would really enjoy doing some “gorilla crochet”.

  16. Donna says:

    Maybe “Croffiti”?

  17. joan says:

i have never been that bored that I WOULD DO SOMETHING THAT CRAZY. I hope that anyone who does gets help immediately.

How to take a picture! I’m a photographer and crocheter, and this is the first I’ve heard or seen of guerilla crochet!

  19. Liz says:

Everyone, this is gurilla crochet, meaning someone snuck up and did this in the night to someone else’s bike. And NO you would not be able to ride it like this or take it off without ruining it, it is placed on then “sewn” up along the seams with more yarn. This bike is done by the same person who covered the wall street bull: http://animalnewyork.com/2010/12/wall-street-bull-crocheted/

It is actually vandalism and very illegal … but I’m all for it!

  20. Laura says:

WOW, now that must have been made by a grandmother that ran out of projects or just liked to have fun with yarn!!

  21. BARBARA MESSENGER says:

Well…….MY friends say that I crochet covers for everthing that stands still long enough!!!!!! Excuse me, I,m off to the fire Dept
